THE KAUPOKONUI FACTORY
LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE. By Telopwph.—Press Association. Hawera, Last Night. On Saturday morning the Hon, T. Mackenzie laid the foundation stone of the new Kaupokonui cheese factory, which is being erected in concrete to replace the wooden structure recently destroyed by fire. The factory when completed will he the largest and most up-to-date in the world. The ceremony was performed in the presence of a large crowd of people, including many directors from factories in the surrounding districts. Hon. Mackenzie afterwards was entertained at luncheon at the Manaia Hotel. In the afternoon the Minister laid the foundation stone of the new post office at Manaia, which is being erected at a cost of £3OOO.
Later, lie received a deputation from the Waimate West County Council on local matters, and in the evening he addressed a very large gathering in the Town Hall on the farming industry.
