STATE COMPETITION LOOMS UP.

At the half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company the report was read and showed a profit of £247,428. A dividend of 10 per cent, was passed and £77,013 was carried forward.
* Mr. Kater, the chairman, stated that the commission appointed by the Queensland Government, advised the erection of three additional central mills by the State, and the Government declared that the proposal had their support. Owing to such over-development of the industry some loss might be expected for the next four years. Referring to a recent statement by Mr. Hughes that the company refused to supply shopkeepers if they sold imported sugar, Mr. Kater declared that the company would supply anybody who was able to pay for what he bought.
ANGLO-GERMAN GOODWILL
HOPEFUL SIGNS. By cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Received 30, 5.5 p.m. London, April 29. At an Anglo-German rapprochement meeting in London, Professor Silper, of Munich, indicated that the friendly interchange of views between the Governments proceeding in reference to'the diminution of armaments may lead to further developments. Lord Loreburn, who presided, hoped they would soon hear good news in regard to Germany. He hoped to see a similar gathering to yesterday's held at the Guildhall.
