WHARF LABORERS' DISPUTE
THh LABORERS HARD TO PLEASE. By cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Sydney, April 28. The wharf laborers have declined to accept the agreement with the Steamship Owners' Federation, which was prepared by the executive of the Waterside Work«s' Union. It is stated that the agreement contained the best set of working ionditions ever offered, but the clause freeing to handle all descriptions of merchandise was strongly objected to, and members voted against it, being desirous to pick and choose their work. Mr. Hughes, who is general secretary, is disappointed, and threatens to resign.
SERIOUS TROUBLE THREATENED. Received 29, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, April 28. Serious trouble is threatened In conaction with the wharf laborers' agreement. Shipowners have decided to ask their permanent hands to load cement. If they refuse free labor will be employed. The new arrangement comes into jperation on Monday. A general cessation of work on the wharves is considered not improbable.
