Poultry.—At the mart on Saturday we had a very rair entry of birds of all classes despite the rough weather. Bidding was brisk throughout, and prices showed an advance on previous sale. Old hen.s, Is 4d, Is fid; fat hens, Is Bd, Is lid; laying hens, 2s, 2s Od; cockerels, Is lOd to 2s; young do, lOd to Is 2d; pullets, young, Is 8d to Is lOd; forward, 2s 4d, 2s lid; turkey gobblers, young, as; chicks, Od to 7'/ 2 d; good young laying hens and pullets are now selling well. Fruit.—Fruit is now short of supply, pears being about over, and apples being the only fruit coming on the market. Apples, best dessert, 8s to 8s fid; seconds lis to 7.s Od; cookers, good, as Od, 5s Od; seconds. Is Od to os 3d; pears, Winter Nellis and Hunter Cole, 0s half case; Vicars, ,'ts Od, 4s half cases; quinces, 4.s ild, os half cases; tomatoes, 4s, 4s Ud; cape gooseberries, 4s !)d; walnuts, O'/od; oranges, repacked, 13s Od; bananas, Tongan, green, Bs, 8s t)d case; ripe, 2d per lb.
