HARBOR BOARD ELECTIONS

BOROUGH AND COMBINED TOWN DISTRICTS. In the Centra] anil West wards of the borough the same number of voters polled as in the municipal elections. In the East Ward and the Fitzroy and St. Aubyn Town districts, where the Harbor Board election was the only attraction, the polling was small. The East Ward contained 1003 names. By noon only about twenty had exercised their privilege, and the total for the day was only l(i0. At Fitzroy about sixty came to the poll, whilst the returning officer at St. Aubyn only had to attend to about fifty. Mr. Connett, as expected, was returned by a splendid majority, receiving 857 votes, Mr. C. E. Bellringer, with 609 votes, obtained the other seat. Mr. Morrison polled 399 votes. Details:— Connett, Bell- Morringer rison. Fitzroy .... 57 40 12 East 151 131 44 Central .... 438 298 207 West 174 114 103 St. Aubyn .. 37 20 33 Total 857 GO!) 399 There were 15 informal votes. COUNTY OF EGMOXT AND TARANAKI. There are five returns to come yet, viz., Rahotu, Omatn, Sentry Hill, Ratapiko, and Tariki. Mr. Newton King has a good lead, having polled 43(1 votes. Mr. Maxwell secured 291, and Mr. Price 233. The few returns to come in should increase Mr. King's lead. Mr. Maxwell at present has a majority of 58 over Mr. Price. The returns to come will probably not affect the position very much, as the advantage gained by Mr. Price at Tariki and Ratapiko should be counter-balanced by Mr. Maxwell at Rahotu and Omata. The results at the various polling booths so far are as follows: —

THE-WELLINGTON BOARD. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton, Last Night. In the Harbor Board election for two representatives of Wairarapa the figures are: C. E. Daniell 1291, A. McFarlane 1132, F. B. Lowes 800, ,1. C. Ewington 75.'). There are eighteen small returns to come, but they cannot affect the result. WANGANUI.

Wanganui, Last Night. ; The contest for the Harbor Board created intense interest, and resulted in Messrs. Mackay, Bassctt, Bignell, Meuli, Williams and John Jones being elected for the borough; Messrs. Murray and William Ritchie as Waitotara representatives; and Mr. Poison as Wanganui county representative. The second candidate was not ascertainable to-night. There is great jubilation over the result of the board election, which indicates confidence in the old board's policy to prosecute extensive works, which it is confidently expected will allow ocean liners to berth at the port within five years. A large crowd waited for four hours to hear the declaration of the poll. LYTTELTON. Ashburton, Last Night. Messrs. John Lambie and Hugo Friedlander have been reelected to represent the county and borough of Ashburton on the Lyttelton Harbor Board. The figures are as yet incomplete, there being five small country returns to come, but they cannot in any way affect the result, which at present stands as follows: John Lambie 982, Hugo Friedlander 967. NAPIER. Napier, Last Night. An unusual amount of interest was manifested in the borough council and harbor board elections to-day, especially in the latter, in which the breakwater harbor and inner harbor parties worked strenuously throughout the day in order to secure the return of their respective candidates. The polling was very heavy, and it is not expected that the results will be announced till after midnight.

GISBORNE. Gisborne, Last Night. The election of the harbor board resulted in Messrs. H. White, G. Witters, T. Holden, F. J. Lysnar and C. J. Parker being elected for the Cook county. The other returns are not yet to hand.
