WAITARA NEWS
(From our Own CorrespnndciU. The ordinary monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Saturday evening, there being present: Messrs. Pearce (chairman), Wakely, Spurdle, Johnston and Kettle. The inspector's and headmaster's reports were read, the latter pointing out that an additional 35 dual desks would be required. On the chairman's suggestion the matter was referred to the incoming committee. Mr. Halcombe, a member of the Education BoaTd, attended the meeting in reference to the matter of erection of shelter sheds, and after some discussion it was resolved to accept, the offer of the Board to erect two sheds 30x10, the committee to subsidise to the extent of £4O, and pay the cost of tarred floor. Mr. Halcombe received a vote of thanks for the interest he had taken in the matter, and in reply said it gave him much pleasure to do so. ■ Accounts amounting to £2 10b 6d were passed for payment. Torrential rains were experienced from Urenui northwards to Mount Messenger on Sunday afternoon. Creeks rose three and foirr feet in a very short .'pace of time, whilst the sides of the roads were like swift flowing rivers. From Uienui to Waitara there was practically no rain.
