HAS FEZ FALLEN?
REPORTED MASSACRE OF TUB INHABITANTS. FRENCH FORCE ORGANISING. THE GOVERMENT'S EXISTENCE ENDANGERED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Received 23, 5.5 p.m. Paris, April 22. The Government's existence is endangered unless vigorous action is taken to save the French officers, whose position is likened to that of General Gordon at Khartoum. A relief force of four thousand natives, under French officers, is atp resent forming, but can reach Fez only by May 3 if unopposed. There are various reports that Fez has fallen, and that the garrison was massacred. ' The newspapers urge decisive measures, heedless of the carpings of the German and Spanish Press. Le Temps declares that Frenchmen are in danger of death through the Government's ineptitude, and must be saved, and the P6wers told outright what France intends to do. There are a dozen British "people at Fez, including James McLeod and family; Dr. Verdon, his wife and two children; two English lady missionaries; two American missionaries; forty-five Frenchmen; and five Germans. VIGOROUS MEASURES TAKEN. RAISULI REFUSES HELP. {§•»> ■ Received 23, 5.5 p.m. Paris, April 22. There is growing excitement at the delay in the rescue of the French colony at Fez. Captain Moreau is forming a party at Mehalla and Alcazar to reliez Major Bremand's Sherarda troops, but Raisuli refuses to allot the Raids' transports to carry supplies to the French. The Government announces that vigorous measure will be taken to re-victual Major Bremond.
