M. S. W. Shaw returned on Friday . night from Nelson, where he has bcett spending a brief holiday. Lord Dudley, the Governor-General of Australia, states that home ties and private interests caused his resignation,, not friction with the Labor Government.—Press cable. Mr. W. Noble, formerly of New Ply. mouth, who for two years past has been chief clerk at the Masterton railway station, has been promoted to an important position at Thorndon station. Wellington. ' Mr. J. H. Windlcborn, manager of the Makahu dairy factory, has been appointed manager to the Oakura Cooperative Dairy Co., Ltd., from among 2U applications received from both Islands. Mr. Windleborn takes up hi» new duties early next month. The death is announced from Napier of Mrs. Peter Skerrett, mother of Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., of Wellington, at present in England. The deceased lady snrvived by sixteen months her husband, who was for some years clerk of the court at Hastings. The family consists of two sons (Mr. C. P. Skerrett and Mr. King Skerrett, the latter of whom is at present in South America) and four daughters, three of whom are in England. A third son was killed in the South African war. Many people in Hawcra will no doubt be interested to know that Frank Hutchens was to give his first recital at the Bechstcin Hall, London, on March 31, says the Star. He was to take thewhole of the programme on his own shoulders. A copy to hand shows that the numbers constitute a very fine selection, including a Beethoven sonata, Debussy valse, Chopin etudes, Brahm's Ballade, Liszt Rhapsody, Frauck Prelude, and Fugue, and smaller selections by Tobias Mathay and Dale.
