THREE FIRES IN DUNEDIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Sunday Night. The residence of Joseph Braitlnvaite, a well-known bookseller, was badly damaged by fire last night. The outbreak wa's discovered at about 9.30, and the fire did not then have a strong hold, but unforunately the water supply was inade-i quatc, and the brigade could do little.' The whole of the top storey was gutted, and the back portion of the house and outbuildings were completely destroyed and the front portion on the ground lloor was slightly damaged by fire and water. A good deal of the furniture was saved from the rooms, but was badly damaged in the course of removal. The house was unpccupied during the day, and there were no fires or lights in it. Jt is surmised some smouldering embers in ail outhouse near-the residence caused the outbreak. The house, which was situated at the top ,of York' Place, one of the highest levels in the city, contained 16< rooms, and was built about 26 years ago. It it understood the house was insured for about £I2OO. A four-roomed house in Moreau-street, St. Kilda, was gutted by fire about 8. o'clock last night. The building had just been purchased by Win. Alexander Moore, who intended removing into it in a tew days. Mr. Moore and some paperhangers were working in the bouse during the day and left at 5 p.m., everything being apparently safe. The fire originated in a back room, but the origin is unknown. The house was insured in the Victoria i office for £3OO. A shop and dwelling, owned by W. M. Roberts and occupied by Thomas Bell, pastrycook, .situated oii the Main road. North-East Valley, was destroyed by fire about 10.30 last night. Bell, who locked his shop at 9.50, cannot account for the origin of the fire. He values his stock, plant and furnishings at £l4O, and has a policy of £'so in the New Zealand office and one of £25 in the Phoenix ollice on them. OUTBREAK AT WELLINGTON. Wellington, Saturday. An outbreak of fire occurred at the Kelburne tea kiosk last evening. At one time it looked as if the whole building ■would be demolished, but the brigade managed to confine the fire to two rooms.
