HONE HEKE MEMORIAL
BIG MAORI GATHERING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. Maoris from all parts of the North Island are arriving for the unveiling of the Hone Ileke monument at Kaikohe, the total number there now exceeding 2000. Religious exercises are features ot the gathering. The Hon. Jas. Carroll, Native Minister, arrived there to-day, and had a great reception, some 400 women decorated with evergreens, and a similar number of men stripped to the waist, chanting their welcome. A number of old-time ceremonies were observed.
