STATE SECRETS STOLEN
THE FRENCH INCIDENT. By Cable—Press Association—Cepyright Paris, April 7. Majmon, who was arrested in connection with the theft of documents from the Foreign Office, is a Mahommedan, and was naturalised in England. AN INTERESTING CAREER. Received 9, 12.35 a.m. Paris, April 9. The newspapers state that the removed documents were such as to make Russia believe that France was co-operat-ing with Great Britain against Russian interests. It is variously stated that Sir Edward Grey was offered the documents, and informed M. Pichon. A London newspaper was similarly offered them, and it also warned M. Pichon. Maimon has had a picturesque career. He was born in Syria, and served Abdul Hamid for many years as a spy. He obtained a concession on the Bagdad railway, and was suspected of the disclosure of the tenor of the Russo-German Potsdam proposals. Routel abstracted the paper, and Pallier copied the documents, and returned them to Routel.
