COMMERCIAL.

DAIRY PRODUCE AT HOME. Messrs E. Griffiths and Co. are in receipt of thd following market report from their London principals, Messrs Mills and Sparrow:— The trade during the past week has been dull and lifeless, which is often the case, towards the end of the month. Danish: Business has been very slow and lower prices have been taken, but there is still a fair quantity of butter left over. It was generally expected that the quotation would have been reduced, but this no doubt will take place next week. Australian: Although arrivals this week have been small in comparison with previous weeks, only 38,000 boxes coming to hand per s.s. Omrah, thev have been more than sufficient for the demand, which has been very dull. Buyers seem to have made up their minds to stand off altogether this week, with the result that it has been very difficult to make sales. The quality, too, of the butter just now is beginning to show' signs of "weather," the keeping qualities being none too good. Some of the. test factories have kept well up to their usual high standard and' these liavc met witfe a ready sale. There are, however, large quantities of secondary goods unsold, and we fear lower prices will have to be taken for these in order to bring on the demand. New Zealand: The s.s. Tainui's butter has met with a fairly good demand, and all choicest butters are pretty well cleared. There are still a few brands, which are off-flavored, unsold, but the market is practically clear of finest goods. The s.s. Rotorua docked yesterday, but so far has not commenced discharging butter, so that nothing will be ready before next week. CHEESE. Canadian: There has been very little doing this week, but the market remains steady. New Zealand: The same remarks apply here as to Canadian, but occasionally 6d to Is less has been taken, in order to force business. A better trade is expected next week. FROZEN PORK. Market steady. Dutch, 70 to lOOlbs, fid to 0y 2 d; English, 70 to lOOlbs, Gd to 7d; New Zealand and Australian, 5d to o'Ad.
