THE ARCHER SHEE CASE

The Archer "Slice case has been revived, the father claiming £IO,OOO damages, and bitterly complaining in the newspapers that the Admiralty had not expressed regret. The case raised a debate in the House of Commons, during which Mr. McKenna expressed his unqualified regret, and finally agreed that Lord Mersey should fix the compensation to be paid and the amount of the law costs. Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald protested against a sitting being devoted to Archer Shee. Mr. O'Grady was called to order for terming the debate a "damned scandal." This refers to the case of a bov who was dismissed from the Naval College on a charge which afterwards proved to he unfounded. The Admiralty's offer to pay Mr. Shee's costs was declined. Ten thousand pounds damages were claimed, which the Admiralty declined to pay.
