GENERAL TELEGRAMS
MORE RAIN WANTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The little rain in this district, though not enough to benefit the deep roots, has freshened the grasses, and the country is much greener. A PLUCKY RESCUE. Timaru, Last Night. Mr. Knincs, chief officer of the Corinnn, gained great applause from the onlookers for the smart and courageous way in which he assisted a man who, after dark, fell into the water between the .'hip and the wharf. He went down a pile, and pulled the man out of danger of being crushed. PROGRESS IN BLENHEIM. Blenheim, Last Night. A poll was held to-day on the question of raising a loan of £65,000 for the purpose of supplying Blenheim with a water and drainage scheme. Great interest was taken in the poll, loud charing greeting the result, which was: For 526, against 390. The proposals were thus carried by 130 votes.
