THE COAL VEND
ITS SUGGESTED ABOLITION. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, April 0. The meeting of colliery proprietors further, discussed the question of dissolving the coal vend. It is understood that considerable tension exists in the matter, the opponents contending that dissolution would mean the introduction of a cut-throat policy which would seriously affect the coal trade. The statement is made that if the vend dissolved, coal would be sold at Newcastle at 7s per ton. The decision of the meeting, if any, was not disclosed.
