CRICKET
THE SCHOOL CHALLENGE SHIELD. I The challenge shield presented by.:M6 E. Whittle, one of Taranaki's most n|;j dent cricketers, to be awarded to: the. winner of the North Taranaki schools cricket competition, has now been pro cured by Mr. J. Bennett, and is oniview for a few days in the window of [.hi* establishment. The shield itself is.a very fino piece of polished mottled totara, and has' as its centrepiece 1 a raised figure of crossed bats, stumps and laurel wreath. Above this a silvei scroll bears the inscription, "N.T.G.A. Schools Challenge Shield. 1011," and another scroll on the lower half of the shield bears the words "Presented by E. Whittle, 1911." The name of. the "High School B" team, winners of the shield this year, is inscribed on a small silver, plate. Mr. Whittle is deserving of tlic thanks of the whole of the cricket-loving public for this expression of his interest in the rising generation, who are being taught to love the grand old game.
