The river encroached on the main street, one store was overturned, and considerable damage was caused to property. .Sugar-cane crops suffered severely. Vehicle traffic was cut ofl\ The river is now receding. Halifax reports that 75 per cent, of the sugar-cane i.s damaged or destroyed. There are reports of serious damage in other districts. Railway and' telegraphic communication is disorganised, and several bridges washed away. THE WATERS SUBSIDING. Received a, 12.5 a.m. Brisbane, April 4. The flood waters are subsiding. Large quantities of timber have been deposited in the sugar-cane fields, but details are meagre. L '
