THE CHAFFINCH BUBBLE

A MONSTROUS SHAME. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Perth, April 4. In the Chaffinch case the magistrate, after hearing counsel, declared that no jury could find the defendants had circulated the report that the mine had been salted. He believed such a report to be false. The case against all three was dismissed. The Magistrate, referring to transactions of other persons connected with the mine, said that it had been floated on a telegram based on hearsay, and had extracted £125,000 from the pockets of the public. It was a monstrous and crying shame that such a thing was possible.
