;;%<- *» SLTJOESTKD MUNICIPAL CONTROL At Monday night's meeting of the J ukekura Park Hoard a member stated that several people had expressed the opinion that ...« Park should be managed by the Borough Council, but he was opposed to any such change, and in support of his contention he read the. follow, ing extract from 'a late Auckland paper showing the result of the management of the Domain bv the Hamilton BoroiHi Council. He further stated that an Dunedin some years ago the City Council took over the management of tne Park, but the people were not satisfied, and insisted upon the Park being again administered by a board of trustees. The Auckland paper said: ''The Commissioner of Crown Lands in Auckland sat in June of last year to enquire into the administration of the Hamilton Domain lands by the Hamilton Borough .Council, acting* as a domaiin board. The recommendations are conveyed in a letter from the Under-Secre-tary for Lands to Mr. K. N, Xorthcroft, secretary to the committee. Briefly stated, the Commissioner's verdict is that the administration of the domain by the Hamilton iliorough Council, as a domain board, has been unsatisfactory. Insuflicient provision lias been made for outdoor sports. Domain lands have been illegally leased for 14 years with mdit. of renewal, and has resulted in the tenants not paying rent, or carrying out the conditions of lease. Sites for saleyards, reservoir and pumping station have been' taken under the Public Works Act, without any compensation being awarded. Financial arrangements have been faulty and questionable.
