MINING AT KARAMEA.

EXPEjKT I'IiKDKTS GREAT l-'L'TUIiE. ►i,. ■ , Auckland, 'March 30. An ex-AVaihi resident interested _in mining, who recently paid a flying visit tn the town, speaks in high terms of the prospects of the Karamea field. Nelson, particularly ,in regard to the Mount Rau.ant property, wnicli is shortly to he opened up. Tie considers it one of the best mining propositions in Australasia. Mr. W. Cragan. an Australian mining man, who recently paid a five days' visit to Karamea. referred to the field as one of the greatest things he had ever seen. The country was hard and solid, and the reef extended over at least four and a half miles. In fact, it was difficult to estimate the full extent ot it. The reef was uniformly good, and contained a regular unit of material, though capital was required to handle it. There was every facility in the way of timber, water power, etc. One lot of stone has been, picked from various parts of the mineral belt and forwarded to America to have it tested. Mr. Cragan considered that Karamea as a mining centre has a great future. In fact, he stated that he liked it better than either Mount.' Morgan, in Queensland, or Mount 1 jvfll, in Tasmania.
