A FOOTBALL "SMOKER."
IMPORTANT JUDICIAL DECISION. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Masterton. List Night. A decision affecting athletic bodies was given in the Supreme Court this afternoon by the Chief Justice. Some months ago footballers at Pongaroa held a smoke concert, at which alcoholic liquor was dispensed. Admission to the concert cost 7s (id for members, and 5s for non-members, Charles Ericksen, as a member of the football club, was charged with having supplied liquo* to one Percy Kent, who did not pay for admission, but lent his piano for the occasion. Erickson was convicted by Mr. Reid, S.M., of selling liquor, and was fined 20s and costs. Against this decision the club appealed. The Chief Justice supported the finding of the Magistrate, and dismissed the appeal with £5 5s costs.
