Mr. Holman, Acting-Premier, on the strength of the report of the superintendent of the Cockatoo dock, informed the Federal Government that the New South Wales Government was prepared to undertake the building of the new warships. The time for the completion of a second-class cruiser and three destroyers could be fixed at twenty-six months from the time the. plans were lodged. The terms offered would be 8 per cent, upon the actual outlay incurred by the New South Wales Government in the performance of the work. Taking Admiral Henderson's estimate as a guide, the cost of a cruiser would be about £450.000. and that of the destroyers £90,000 each.
