A London cablegram rcport» the death of Mr. Sydney Brough. Mr. E. J. Deare, who has been on a visit to the South Island, has returned to New Plymouth. Mr. \V. T. Jennings, M.P., has been appointed Government nominee on tb» Waitara Harbor Board.
Dr. McLagan and Mrs. McLagan, of Kaponga, leave Lyttelton to-day by the steamer Surrey for England. It is now 24 years since the Hon. T. Mackenzie, at present on a visit to New Plymouth, was first returned to Parliament.
A London cablegram states that Mr. Austen Chamberlain, under medical advice, will take a few weeks holiday on the Continent.
Mr, W. E. Humphries, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Humphries, of Te Namu, Opunake, died at the Hawera hospital on Monday evening. Mr. Roland Vernon, of the Colonial Office, will accompany Lord Desman, the new Governor-General, to Australia. —Press Association.
Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Hughes, of Wanganui, has accepted the post of manager of the team of New Zealand marksmen which competes at Bisley thia year.
A London cablegram reports that Mr. H. D. Broadhead's exhibition in classics at Trinity College, Cambridge and li M. Bell's exhibition have been extended. Both these gentleman are from Christ church'.
The Eltham Argus states that Mr. F. E. Hardy's many friends will be delighted to learn that he is now so far on the road to recovery from his severe illness that he is returning to Eltham on Friday morning.

A. Gisborne wire states that Mr. W. D. Lysnor, Mayor of Gisborne, left last night on a visit to Napier, Feilding, Palinerston North and Wellington, in connection with the recent committees established in regard to having better arrangement* for the handling of frozen produce.
The following changes in the Post and Telegraph Department are announced:— Mr. J. W. Brame, Postmaster at BaV clutha, is promoted to Bluff, Mr. H. W. Kiernan, 'Postmaster at Boxburgh, is transferred to Balclutha. Mr. W. J.. Adamson, telegraphist at Wellington, i* promoted to be Postmaster at Mangaweka.—Pres9 Association.
Sub-Inspector Green, who recently retired from the police force of superannuation, was' yesterday afternoon the guest of a representative gathering of citizens. He'was presented with a gold watch, and a pearl pendant and chain was presented to Mrs. Green. The Mayor, Mr. Day, S.M., and several other leading citizens spoke very highly of Mr. Green as a police officer and citizen. Mr. Green will make his permanent home at Timaru.—Timaru Press wire.
