ATHLETICS.

OAKURA SPORTS TO-MORROW. To-morrow the Oakura Club is holding its third annual sports gathering. This club is a very progressive one, and, in addition to the usual sawing, chopping and running events, has added to the programme some novel events as far as this locality is concerned. Excellent nominations have been received, and good fields are thus assured. The presence of the Taranaki Garrison Band is in itself an attraction that country residents will appreciate, as they do not often get the chance of hearing first-class music. The secretary and committee have got all the details in thorough working order, and all that is wanted to ensure a financial success is good weather. A social and dance will conclude the day's enjoyment, and, incidentally, commence another day. CAPE KG MONT MEETING. The Cape Egmont Club will hold its sports, meeting at Pungarehu next Wednesday. Its first sports meeting last year was an unqualified success. This year the committee hope to achieve still further success. The prize money has been increased, mid the competitors have responded splendidly, so that big fields will face the stavter. The Opunake Brass Band will be in attendance, and discourse a programme of music. iCHECKING BAGGAGE THROUGH US IS NOT EXPENSIVE. Don't run away with the idea that to check your baggage is a luxury.
