THE POTATO MOTH. By Telegraph. —Press Association. Christchurcli, Last Night. The potato moth has made its appear unco in Christchurcli, ami several crops have been ruined iu the outlying districts. ESCAPING FROM INFECTIOUS DISEASES HOSPITAL. Cristehurch, Last Night. On account of a legal difficulty, no action is to be taken against the parents of the child who recently escaped from Bottle Lake infectious diseases hospital for refusing to return the child to the institution. SCHOOL INSPECTOR'S REPORT. Timaru. Last Night. The Inspector of Schools, in his annual report to the Board, comparing 1906 with 11)10, says that the pupils of standard classes have increased by only 00, while the preparatory classes have increased by 485. The large proportion of preparatory pupils makes large classes for the teachers, the majority of whom are not specially trained for the work. Generally, tlie work of the schools is favorably reported on. The system of free books was disapproved of, being objectionable from both an economic and hygienic points of view. The Board's system of doing ordinary repairs and painting by its own staff was commended, and both single nnd dual desks were now made in the Board's workshop.
