LIBEL ACTION FAILS.

Baron de Forest sued Captain Henry Marcus Milner, Lady Gerard, and the Dowager Lady Gerard—his mother-in-law—for slander, in having alleged that his brutal treatment of his wife made it impossible for her to live with him. Counsel for plaintill' stated that Lady Do Forest confessed to adultery with a young army officer named Ashcombe, and the Baron forgave her. The case failed owing to insufficient evidence of publication of the slander, and a verdict was given for defendants, with costs.
