TARANAKI RUGBY UNION. ANNUAL REPORT. Following is the annual report to be presented at the meeting of the Taranaki Rugby Union, which is to be held in Stratford on April 0: '"ln presenting their annual report your committee have pleasure in congratulating 'lie delegates on last year's successful season. During the season fivv representative matches were prayer*, these lost -being against Auckland and Wellington, whilst Wanganui (in both matches) and Manawatu were defeated. In the juniors, Eltham and Okaiawa met/, the former winning, whilst in trie tmrd division Clifton beat Waimate. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance of £IOB, and a surplus of assets over liabilities of £124. This year the representative team will have to make the southern tour. Since the k»st annual meeting it was decided that the Alf Bayly Memorial should take the form of a scholarship combing educational proficiency with athletic prowess. A scheme was drawn up, and submitted to the Education Department, who approved of the idea arid consented to take charge of the examination. Forty-nine candidates entered, and in view'of the fact that the scholarship is a Taranaki one, it is to be regretted that only three competitors should have been forthcoming from South Taranaki. The athletic competition was, held at Stratford, and though pouring rain interfered with the plea-1 sure of the gathering and spoilt the "gate," the competition in all events was very keen. To Master A. Bacon, of the New Plymouth High School, went the honor of becoming the first Bayly scholar. Your committee desire to thank the N,Z. Rugby Union far a donation of £SO, the Wanganui and Taranaki Education Boards for grants of ,-£5, and many gentlemen for monetary and other assistance rendered. It is 'hoped that now the scheme has been successfully launched public support will increase and enable the Union at the end of the year to have placed the Bayly Scholarship on a thoroughly sound financial footing. Your committee have again to thank players for the support they have received during the past season." The Opunake Club has giv en notice to move as follows: "That this Union recommend the X.Z.R.U. to remove the disqualification imposed on ilutson Young."
