■ » Mr. Rcakes, chief Government Veterinary Surgeon, is on a visit to New Plymouth. A cablegram from Rome says that the Kaiser and Kaiserin have departed for Vencie and Corfu. During their stay in Adelaide Mrs. Seddon and her daughter were the guests of the Chief Justice.

Mr. A. Piper has been appointed to Uie temporary charge of the Seventh Day Adventists' Church in New Plymouth. A Capetown cable states that Sir (Doctor) Lcander Jameson is recovering from a ruptured internal blood vessel.

Dr. and Mrs. Truby King left New Plymouth yesterday for Napier. Tomorrow evening he gives a lecture ft* Napier on "Health and Fitness."

Mr. P. Henderson, Superintendent of Works at the 'breakwater, who has been laid up for a week past, is so far recovered as to be able to resume his duties. Mr. Young, manager of the Gisborne Oil Company, is on a visit to New Plymouth. He will probably inspect the Taranaki Petroleum Company's works at Moturoa to-dav.

The death is reported of Mr. T. vSexton. who for several years carried on business as draper and clothier in Hawera. He leaves a widow and two young children to mourn their loss.

News was received in town vesterday of the sudden death of Mrs. t. Smart. Mrs. Smart \va3 well known in New Plymouth, and was tihe mother of Messrs. H. and A. K. Smart and Mrs. W. N. Ewing.

Several members of the scientific partics which are proceeding to Vavau to observe the solar eclipse on April -28 arrived in Auckland by the Maheno from Sydney. They leave Auckland to-day by the Atua.

The Hon. T. Mackenzie. Minister in charge of Tourist resorts, has advised Mr. \\. A. Collis, chairman of the North Egmont Mountain House Committee, that he hopes to be able to visit the Mountain House on Friday next. A Wellington wire states that Dr. Wallis, of Wellington, and the Rev. T. H. Rprott, Bishop-elect, were entertained at luncheon yesterday afternoon by tin Wellington Ministers' Association, the gathering being mainly a farewell *0 Jiishop Wallis, who leaves for Eneland shortly. * A well-known resident of Palmerstoii, Mr. R. Armstrong, accompanied bv his family, will leave early next month to take up his residence in Salt Lake City, Utah, U.S.A. Mr. Armstrong has been a resident of Palmerston for about a quarter of a century. Some vear.s ago he embraced the Mormon faith', and now intends to settle in the State of Utah
