CRUELTY TO PRISONERS
WARDERS PUNISHED. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 25, 5.5 p.m. St. Petersburg, March 25. Sixteen warders at Ekatunburg gaol have been sentenced to terms varying from a month to years, for cruelty. Evidence was given by 100 witnesses, GO of whom were victims of thrashings with knouts, made from ox tendons, wrapped with strips of rawhide, the ends of the knouts being bound with iron wire. Those flogged included political prisoners.
