A DISGRACEFUL RIOT
AT A BUCK.] C M PING SHOW. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. Received 26, 5.5 p.m. Sydney, March 25. [ There was a disgraceful riot 011 the Agricultural Society's ground. An enormous crowd gathered to witness the buckjumping contests, and failing to secure accommodation elsewhere, hundreds attempted to rush the. grandstand in course of erection. Those in charge tried to stop them, but a general ifight. followed. Timber from the stand and stones were used freely, ana several were badly injured. ! A strong force of police was requisitioned, and finally restored order. AN ENORMOUS CROWD. POLICE REINFORCEMENTS. SEVERAL CASUALTIES. Sydney, Later. The exhibition on the Agricultural ground drew a crowd estimated at seventy or eighty thousand. The whole space round the ring, and even the roofs, were densely packed. As soon as the exhibition started, hundreds of men and boys broke the barriers and rushed the enclosure, shouting and howling, and commenced chasing the horses and cattle used in the show, adding to the-uproar and confusion., Only two constables were present when those in charge of the unfinished stand attempted to prevent an entramce, but the crowd, armed with pieces of timber and stones, chased them away and took possession. The disturbance was in progress for an hour before the police, having received reinforcements, were able to clear the ground. 1 " Two youths and a man received injuries necessitating hospital treatment. A number of others received minor injuries. Damage was done to the stand and other property.
