taptain Young, Government Veterinarian, is in town. Lieut.-Col. Watt, of Wanganui, is on a visit to New Plymouth. Mr. Mallon, Commissioner of Railways in New South Wales, is dead. Ihe Hon. G. Fowlds opens a new science room at the llangiora Technical School to-day.—Press wire. The Rev. Mr. Druitt, vicar of Upton, Birkenhead, has been appointed eo* adjutor of the Bishop of Grafton. The death of the Rev. Donald Ross, Presbyterian minister, formerly of New Zealand, is reported from Sydney. Messrs. G. Hogben, Inspector-General of Schools, and T. 11, Gill, Inspector of Secondary Schools, arc on a visit to New Plymouth. Ihe Hon. Thos. Mackenzie. Minister of Agriculture, will probably be present at the unveiling of the pioneer obelisk on Thursday. Constable Clouston, of Normanby, has been appointed to the charge of the Opunake police district, succeeding Constable Ilickman, who will retire oil superannuation at the end of the month. 'Hie London correspondent of the Post writes: "I have definitely ascertained that on the eve of his departure by the Morca for Xew Zealand. Mr. 15. J.'jellicoe (Wellington) was quietly married to a friend of his late wife, and that he is taking her with him to the Dominion." Mr. R. lfeaton Rhodes, M.P., who recently left, for a visit to England, is expected to return to the Dominion in August next, in time for the opening of the next session of Parliament. In the meantime, Mr. C. A. C. Hardy, the member for Kelwyn, will look after the interests of the Ellesmere electorate. At Kaimiro on Friday night, Mr. W. Ct. Shoemark, on the eve of his delimit lire for England, was presented with n travelling bag, suitably inscribed. The presentation was made by settlers of 'he district at a representative farewell social. Mr. Shoemark leaves on Friday next by the Rarawa for Auckland to join the Victoria for Sydney. Mr Hugh M'Allum,of WaiUra lias received an appointment as advertising •specialist with Mr. J. Jlott, the wellknown advertising agent of Wellington. Air. McAllum has shown that he possesses marked ability as an advertisement writer, and there is no doubt among his many well-wishers in New Plymouth and Waitara that lie will attain success in the new sphere of activity he is enteriii'.'.
