TIMARU NEWS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. The weather continues dry and the country is much in need of rain. Some sales of wheat have taken placeat an advance of 2d, merchants requiring to fill at 3s to 3s Id. It is understood that the Rangatira takes 40,000 sacks to London, and other shipments will follow. A good deal of wheat was spoiled by threshing too soon. Very little is doing in oats. The best is quoted at 2s Id to 2s 2d, delivered in Timaru. Potatoes are quoted at £2 103 per ton. The entries for the annual ram fait, on Wednesday are 1090, or 300 more than last year. RAILWAY APPEAL CASE. , Dunedin, Last Night. The Railway Appeal Board sat to-day to hear an appeal by Peter Ireland, a carpenter employed at Hillside workshops, against being disrated from first to second grade. Mr. W. P. Haselden, S.M., presided, with him being associated Messrs. John Gray (first division) and J. H. Jones (second division). Mr. Davidson appeared for the Department, and Mr. Hampton for appellant. After evidence had been taken the Board adjourned till to-morrow.
DOG TRIAL CLUB. Palmerston North, Last Nigh 1 . A meeting of delegates of the newlyformed North Island Dog Trial Club was held here to-night, when arrangements were made for a championship meeting to be held in June at Oringi, near Dannevirke. MDLLE. DOLORES. Wellington, Last Night. Mdllc. Dolores, the popular soprano, concluded a season of four nights at the | Opera House this evening, At each concert there was a large attendance, and much enthusiasm was manifested- Mdlle. Dolores had to practically double her programme to-night, in compliance with demands for encores. LABOR PROSPECTS IN AUSTRALIA. Christchurch, March 23. Mr. T. Walsh, a member of the Auckland Trades and Labor Council, who has been on a visit to Australia, passed; through Christchurch to-day. From the impressions he gathered from Labor people in and out of Parliament in the States visited by him, Mr. Walsh believed there was a very hopeful outlook for the Labor party in Australia. He expressed the opinion that if there were more visits to Australia by New Zealand Laboritas there would soon be a better understanding between Laboi in the Dominion and in Australia..
