MINISTERIAL MOVEMENTS

HON. T. MACKENZIE IN THE SOUTH. By Tcleg»aph.—Press Association. Christciiurch, Thursday, j The Hon. T. Mackenzie, speaking at Waiau, said he had no sympathy with the cry against Ministers visiting tlie country, and was sure they had the support of the people in doing so. He believed apple-raising was going to become a great industry. What the country required were men and money to people the spare spaces. The time was coming when the burden of the Empire would rest more heavily on the Dominion's shoulders. A deputation urged the extension of the railway to Waiau (fifteen miles), but the Minister said it was a question of wavs and means.

A complaint was made by Mrs. French against the railway officials of refusing to allow her husband, who met with a serious accident on the railway works at Cass, to be taken by goods train to the hospital. He had therefore to be driven back and sent on the following day.
