ATTITUDE OF SOUTH AFRICA. Cable—Pic* Association—Copyright. Received 22, 10.45 p.m. London, March 22. A Blue Book has been published dealing with the question of Asiatic immigration to South Africa. The Earl of Crewe, Secretary of State for India, in a despatch on October 7, stated that proscription by Act of Parliament of the inhabitants of other parts of the Empire was open to the gravest objection, but the Government fully recognised the right of a selfgoverning community to choose the elements of which it should be constituted. THE IMPERIAL GOVERNMENT'S REQUEST. . Received 23, 12.15 a.m. , London, March 22. Lord Crewe added that he only asked that emigrants should not be subjected to unnecessary humiliations. Lord Gladstone, Governor-General of South Africa, replied that the South African Government were anxious to meet- the difficulty.
