ACTION FOR DAMAGES.

Peter Varawa has commenced a new action against Howard Smith and Co, claiming £25,000 damages for false imprisonment in connection with the sale -of the steamer Peregrine during the Russo-Japanese war. in a former action Varawa obtained a verdict for £SOOO, but on appeal the decision was upset. ADVERTISING AUSTRALIA. ! Melbourne, March 21. I The Federal Government is seeding nine tons of Victorian products f.or exhibition at agricultural shows in Britain. PAPUAN EXPLORATION. Melbourne, March 21. Mr. Batchelor, Minister of External Affairs, proposes to provide funds for th'e properly organised scientific exploration of the unknown parts of Papua.
WOMEN IN UNIVERSITIES. Melbourne, March 21. The University Council resolved to admit ladies to the University governing bodies.
ANOTHER COLLIERY STRIKE. Sydney, March 21. The wheelers at the South Coast eolJieries are demanding higher wages, and the South Clifton mine has been thrown idle. Several others have notices issued to cease work unless the demands are conceded.
IRRIGATION AND IMMIGRATION. Sydney, March 21. A party of American immigrants, representing four families, has arrived en route for Victoria to settle on irrigation areas. °
YACHTS DAMAGED. Melbourne, March 21. During a heavy blow ten yachts at Brighton sank at their moorings and several were wrecked or badly damaged.
A DAMAGES CASE. Sydney, March 21. In the Supreme Court a son recovered £IOOO damages from his father for an assault causing the loss of an eye.
