THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL

OPEXIXG OF THE SESSION. The formal opening of the 1011 session of the New Plymouth Technical School' took place last evening. The Advisory Committee attended. Mr. F. P. Corkill, chairman of the committee, in his address to the students and instructors, remarked that as the committee represented some of the local bodies, it was their intention to take a practical interest in the school, which by some was thought to be a " white elephant." He pointed out that many boys and girls and middle-aged persons in the town could greatly profit by availing themselves of the advantages offered. Tf they desired any information, or wanted anything done, they should not hesitate to consult the director, Mr. W. A. Ballautyne, or the organiser, Mr. F. J. Ileatley. or any member of the committee, all of whom were anxious to consider the formation of new classes, such, ho suggested, a.s commercial geography.' Students desirous of attending a class in this subject should send in their names to the director as soon as possible. The chairman appealed for a good attendance at the classes, and pointed out that by attending well the students gave the best encouragement to the instructors. Last night the classes in photography, dressmaking, and arithmetic were fairly well attended.
