GISBORNE OIL COMPANY CASE. Gisborne, Saturday. Judgment was reserved in the case W. K. Chambers v. W. L. Clayton and G. Hutchison, in regard to oil concessions. His Honor suggested that the parties confer in the meantime, in the hope of effecting a settlement. MINISTER FOR PUBLIC WORKS. Gisborne, Saturday. The Hon. R. Mackenzie reaches Gisborne to-night from Motu. He was welcomed at the latter place by the settlers, and matters of district interest were placed before him. He stated that the railway would go within two miles of Motu township. He would not rest satisfied until connection was made from Napier to Waihi. He knew the I difficulties of construction lay beyond the Motu, but was very hopeful of getting a good grade from Papamoe to Opitiki. Although the route was a few miles longer than by Pahiki, still he was satisfied that the railway by Papamoe was the cheapest and also opened up a large area of good country, whereas by Pahiki there was no settlement to I speak of.
