THE IRON INDUSTRY. By Telftgrapb..—Pre* Association. ' Ckristchurch, Last Night. Regarding the recent conference on the iron iudustry, it was decided to support any duty being placed on imported articles. A notice of motion was tabled, proposing that the resolution constituting the council a district branch of the Federaton of Labor be rescinded. HEAVY TRAFFIC BY-LAWS. Tiniaru, Last Night. The Mackenzie County Council is faced with the difficulty of enforcing its heavy traffic by-law against traction engine traffic. The defence raised in certain prosecutions is that the council is uon-est, never having been properly constituted. The tjuestion is to be fought out. A SUCCESSFUL SHOW. Tiniaru, Last Night. At the annual meeting of the Tinttru A. and P. Association to-day, the report and accounts were satisfactory. The profits for the year were ,t'3oo. ' With these, and the balance from last vear of £4BB, debentures totalling £OOO were paid off and buildings added costing £230, and renovations £72, leaving u debit of £57. Mr. H. Eliworth was elected president, and Mr. Withell vicepresident. SHORTAGE OF RAILWAY TRUCKS. Tiniaru, Last Night. The perennial complaint of shortage ol railway trucks is again heard in this district. The demand is even move urgent than usual, as the threshing season is fine and the short straw enables mills to make quick work. Record tallies for a day's work have been made. DESERTION NOT MOVED. Tiniaru, Last Night. The seaman who deserted from the Kumara at Sydney, and was recognised by the captain of the Kumara on the Kverton Grange here, and arrested for desertion, was charged to-day, and the magistrate dismissed the information on the ground that the man had an excuse offering from a broken jaw, the result of a fall, when he left the Kumara.
