THE WANGANUI WHARVES
FRICTION WITH THE RAILWAY DEPARTMENT. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wanganui, Last Night. For many years the Railway Department lias worked the local wharves, charging the Harbor Board at the rale of 7d per ton. The (iovernment recently granted an increase in wages to wharf hands, and asked the Harbor Board to pay an extra 2d per ton to recompense the Department. The Harbor Board entered a protest, and as a sequel to the correspondence extending over several mouths, (he Board to-night decided to (alee over the working of the wharves if the Department persists in its refn-.nl (o carry out (lie original agreement.
