MONTHLY MEETING. Tlie monthly meeting of the Kgnionl County Council was lield on Friday last. Present: Crs.'Dudley (chairman),. MaxHell; Hurst, Farquhar, Macllcynolds. Yourig, Harvey and Willcox. . FOREMEN'S REPORTS. Rahotu Southern: Foreman Humphries reported that he had been engaged in general work,, cleaning culverts, etc. He had also made eleven 3ft. pipes at a cost of 14s 3d each and sullieient 2ft. pipes to lengthen the culverts between Heimama and Koteoteo streams at a cost of 8s 5d each. This work would he taken in hand shortly. He recommended procuring further cement so that a stock of pipes could be kept on hand.—Suggestion adopted. Rahotu Northern: Foreman F. New-' port reported that he had been employed with contracts that are in progress, forming the old metal way and laying the 'Same down with crushed nielal: 7"2ti yards of crushed metal and 444 yards of blinding li'nd been delivered and spread ■on the road. The crusher had been overhauled and a new jaw put in, and the metnl crushed so far has been very satisfactory. The 'Wakopawai bridge had been propped up so as to take the crashing plant over safely. He recommended final payment to A. C. Vincent on contracts Xos. 170 and 172 (brushed metal) and No. ISO'(blinding); arid a progress payment of 75 per cent, .on contracts 173 nnd'l74. The'blinding used on'the Main South road was the best ■■available.'' Being of a sandy nature it had blown awav ill the continual dry weather. He intended reblinding the, road with other material. Re metal- from Coffey's pit: He had' told other contractors as well as A. TV Vincent Hint boulder stone could be got out of any of the pits iu the riding as long as it was satisfactory. ' ' The attention of the. foreman is to be called to the necessity of raking iu the metal on the new formation. .'STONE-BREAKING. .'„...' Cr. Macßeynolds said that at last meeting he referred to the large amount paid for stone-breaking by hand which he had questioned, but -after making some inquiry he was satisfied these men had earned the cheques, and he made the statement in satisfaction of the knowledge lie. ■ now possessed. He then moved: "That the foreman be instructed not to engage stone-breakers to break metal if possible. He remarked that it does, not look well for the crusher to be in the shed and the council to engage stone-breakers.—Seconded by Cr. Willcox and carried. , ' GRAVEL RESERVES. At last, meeting, the council resolved to oiler the gravel reserves for lease to the persons at present occupying them. Mr. Knight replied accepting the terms offered provided there was no "lawyer business"; about it, and he was allowed to remove any shed he erected.—Grouted. It was reported that Mr. O'Rorke declined to take the reserve at the price asked, whilst Enia would only give 8s instead of £l. Resolved, "That notice be served on all occupiers that the council wil| fence oil' .unoccupied reserves and let same." v VVIREMU ROAD. The Government notified that they approved of the plans and specification's for work'proposed to be done with the Wiremu road grant. Tenders have been called for the work. ! GENERAL. Booth, Mac Donald and Co. advised that the manganese crusher jaws had been shipped from England. The sum of £SO is to be paid off the liability to the Skeet road guarantors. Mr. Standish was granted remission of half general rates on his property, Mr. P. Willcox was granted permission to erect two temporary 6wing gates on the Wiremu road at the Ngariki road junction. The request of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, who asked that the February and March subsidies should be paid at one time, was granted. It was resolved to clear out a ditch on the Watino road provided the settlers pay half cost. A motion to provide metal for Watino road was lost, as the road is overdrawn £BO. The clerk is to arrange with the local solicitor to sue some natives for arrears of rates. The right to cut flax on all the roads in the countv is to 'be oll'ered for sale to Mr. Rutherford. .It was resolved to repair the Manihi bridge this season and replace it with a pipe culvert next season. The Puncliu bridge is to be repaired, and tenders are to be called for 21)0' yards of metal on the Elthnm road. It was resolved that the culvert near Mr. Malcolm's on Main South road be repaired, and the chairman and Or. MacReynolds are to report on the stale of a bridge near Carroll's on the.
