MONTHLY MEETING. > The monthly meeting of the Taranaki J. Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was* ; held yesterday. Present: Messrs F. C.l Bellringer (chairman), J. Brown, K. Maxwell, C. Sullivan, J. R. Hill, D. H. McDonald, W. Cutlield, and C. Andrews. Mr. Macßcynolds wired apologising 'for his absence. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows: From the Treasury, notifying the remitting of £439 9s 9d subsidy. From H. Lambert, wardsman at the hospital, applying for an increase in wages. —Refused. From the Education Department, calling attention to sections 11 and 12 of '•The Education Amendment Act, 1910," which enacts that parents of deaf, blind, feeble-minded and epileptic children shall provide them with education and training to the satisfaction of the Minister of Education. If a parent is deemed unable to provide such instruction, the child may be ordered to a special school as defined by the Act, the parent being required, either by agreement with the Minister, or, failing that, by order of a magistrate, to contribute towards the cost of its maintenance and education at such a rate not exceeding 10s a week as he is found able to pay. Further, that where the parent shows that he is not able to pay the full cost of the child's maintenance, the deficiency up to 8s a week is payable to the Government by the Hospital and Charitable Aid BoaTd of the district wherein the Child was resident when the order for admission to the school was made. From the Salvation Army, asking for reduction in the charges in connection with the case of an officer who had been treated at the hospital.—Secretary to make inquiries. 16;»' ■ » THE RATH. "* •""■ :."'" The chairman gave notice that he] would move at meeting that the rate for the ensuing year be 8d in the £IOO, the same as this year. THE LANDY CASE. Rev. R. P. Keall, of Opunake, wrote in regard to Mrs. Landy's allowance, stating that the necessity for help was just as great as before, and that it was impossible for her to maintain herself and two children without assistance.—lt was resolved not to open the case, the feeling being that the applicant was able to do without charitable aid. It was also made clear that the annoying behaviour of the applicant was in no way responsible for the Board's attitude. ANNUAL SUPPLIES. Tenders for supplies for the ensuing year were accepted as follows:—Drugs, Teed and Son; meat, H. Joll; bread, C. Buchanan; groceries, J. McNeill; wood and coal, Westport Coal Co; milk (hospital), L. F. Laurent, and (Old People's Home), Marfell Bros.; spirits, Goldwater Bros. No tender was accepted for shoes, the Board deciding to allow nurses £1 annually with which to purchase ward! shoes. I OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. j Mrs. Bayly, matron in charge of thej Old People's Home, reported that duriigj the month there had been one admission and two departures, and one death. Thirty-one were now in the Home, 20 males and 5 femalei. THE HOSPITAL. Mr. Wylie, acting medical superintendent, reported that during the month 29 had been admitted, 37 discharged, 4 had died, and 23 remained in the hospital. The number of operations was 18. GENERAL. Accounts to the amount of £1042 12s' were passed for payment, ! Mr. Hill called attention to the con-' dition of the small ambulance donated to the Board many years ago, which he considered should be better cared for than it is now.—lt was stated that the ambulance was in the hands of the local Ambulance Brigade, and that the Board | paid £1 a year towards its upkeep. The chairman said he hoped they would '■ be in possession of an up-to-date motsr ambulance before long, and this being ' the ease, it was hardly advisable to j spend money on the present ambulance.
