HIGH-PRICED SHORTHORNS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invereargill, Last Night. At a dispevsal sale held to-day at Pine Bush by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co., of Messrs. Carswell Bros.' herd of Shorthorn cattle, what are regarded as record prices for cows and calves for the South Island were secured. Twenty-six cows and heifers averaged 17 guineas each. Nine heifer calves averaged 13'/, gns, and ten bull calves averaged 13% gns. Several sales were made from 2-1 gns to 33 gns for cows. One heifer calf made 21 gns, and one bull calf 1!) gns. One bull fetched 38 gns. CATTLE-STEALING. Wellington, Wednesday. Arthur GifTord Tsbister was sentenced to three months' imprisonment in the Magistrate's Court to-day for cattlestealing. A THREATENED BOYCOTT. Wcstport, Wednesday. The following resolutions were unanimously passed at a conference of miners' delegates from Denniston, Granity, Stockton, and Mokihinui, held in Westport:—That this conference enters its strong protest against the appointment of Messrs. Betts and Fulton on the Royal Commission set np by Government to inquire into the ventilation and sanitation of coal and gold mines throughout the Dominion; further, we consider the Federation of Labor's recommendation should have been given effect to, and in the event of the Federation's recommendation being not considered, the whole of the miners throughout the Dominion be asked not to give evidence or assist the commission in any way.
