Lord Chelmsford presided at a farewell banquet to Mr. McGowcn on the eve of his departure to the Coronation. Mr. McGowen declared that the safety of the Empire rested on the self-govern-ing power given its people, which was safer and surer than any republican form of government. They could best help the Mother Country by helping themselves. The public men of Ausy tralia were to-day facing this question with all earnestness and determination. AN ENTHUSIASTIC SEND-OFF. Received 15, 7.45 p.m. Sydney, March 15. Mr. McGowen was given a most enthusiastic send-off to the Coronation. Crowded launches followed the steamer to the Heads. OFF TO THE CORONATION.
