lIARBOIt BOARD. (From our Own Correspondent). The usual monthly meeting was held on Friday evening, there being present: Messrs. Stubbs (chairman), Jenkins, Chappell, and Spurdle. An apology was received from Mr. W. R. Wilson, who was absent through in--1 disposition. The matter of non-payment of rent by one of the Board's tenants was left in the hands of the chairman to deal with. The Commissioner of Crown Lands supplied a list of properties, together with the names of the lessees, recently granted to the Board. Mr. Dowsett is to be given instructions to survey the land, also the foreshore, so as to enable the Board to obtain titles. Mr. A. T. Lake asked for section on West Quay to be put up for lease, offering ah upset of 12s fid per week. Mr. Chappell thought that a good offer should not be turned down.—The chairman said that it had been decided not to offer the land until the new bridge was erected. —Messrs. Jenkins and Spnrdle concurred.—ln reply to Mr. Spurge, Mr. Chappell said that if the Board were erecting the bridge, he would probably not suggest that the section should be put up now.—lt was resolved not to offer the section at the present time. Messrs. Wilson and Grey, on behalf of Messrs. Hatrick and Co., .asked that the latter's lease be prepared and executed. Messrs. Roy and Nicholson wrote on the same subject, and several other leases. | Messrs. Roy and Nicholson advised that the control of the bridge vested in the Borough Council on November 21, 1910, and income from that date reverted to the Council. In reference to the forms of lease, it was resolved to inform Messrs Roy and Nicholson that the Board intended to retain the form of renewable lease, aid not adopt that of the Wellington Board. The Borough Council asked the Board to put up sees. 8 to 11, blk. 5, Waitara East, on a longer lease. The chairman said the matter of leasing properties of which the Council received half the revenue vyas purely in the hands of the Board. Mr. Chappell thought the Council should be thanked for their suggestion, and the'matter considered. Mr. Jenkins congratulated Mr. Chappell on his sarcasm. It was decided to reply that the Board was satisfied with the present conditions. ~ The agent for the Federal Shipping Company wrote thanking the Board for the prompt manner in which an important rtessage was conveyed to the s.s. Sussex by the Board's pilot by the Morse signals, and congratulating the 'pilot on "his knowledge of his work.—lt ■was decided to send a copy of the letter to the' pilot. The secretary submitted a list of the timber received for the wharf extension. On checking, he found that there were two pieces short, for which he had made a claim on the railway for their value. Mr. Jenkins said that he had gone through the port charges, etc., and he thought they were very low, and could stund a rise. It was his intention, before next meeting, to go more thoroughly into the matter.
