CRIMES OF THE CAMORRA
TIIE TRIAL COMMENCES. ELABORATE PRECAUTIONS BY THE .AUTHORITIES. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright Received 13, 12.30 a.m. Rome, March 11. The trial of forty-one Camomsts, including Alfani, has commenced, the church of Scalzi at Viterbo being transformed into law courts. Six hundred witnesses have arrived, in charge of a hundred detectives, and a thousand carabineers patrol the town. The prisoners are locked in an iron cage, each accompanied bv a carabineer, with a smaller cage for Abbatwaggio, the informer. There is great difficulty in securing a jury, many tendering medical certificates. A recent cablegram told of the arrest of Alfani and several other members of the Camorra secret society, on charges of murder.
