KEMI'EUA RESIDENCE BURNED. By Telegraph. —Bress As&'ocitition. Auckland, Wednesday. The two-storey building of Edmund Mahoney, solicitor, at licuiucra, wus destroyed by lire at midnight in the absence of ilie family and servants. The whole of the furniture was destroyed. The building was owned by Hale, ol Wellington. The police had been informed that the dwelling would be unoccupied for some time, and a constable was proceeding to the house to see if everything was safe when he saw the building ablaze. The origin of the flic ig a mystery. A HAMILTON BLAZE. Hamilton, Last Night. A disastrous fire broke out shortly after six o'clock this evening, which totally destroyed King and C'o.'s huge mart with its contents, and gutted the Waikato Hospital Board's building next door. The fire originated in a small oil'ice in the block occupied by D. Luxford, manager of the Blend Tea Agency, and spread rapidly. Most of the firemen were away at Hokitika, and the. brigade was assisted by civilians who, without a recognised head, did little. In addition, the water pressure was poor. The extent of the damage is not, known, but apparently everything went. Luckily there was no wind, or the whole block would have gone. The fire is now being subdued. Later. King and Co.'s buildings were owned by Ralph Holland, of Ashburton. It is believed that all were covered by insurances, but the amounts are unavailable. The fire has now been subdued, and there is little danger of its being renewed.
