NEW CALEDONIA
USELESS OFFICIALDOM. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, March 8. The Herald publishes an interview with a resident of New Caledonia, stating that there is little doubt that the Japanese Government is behind the immigration of its subjects to the island. The French are quite indifferent to the influx, as they arc to most things. Useless officialdom reigns, and colonials strongly object to keep it in an extravagant life of luxury. French residents frequently express the desire that Australia should annex the whole of the Loyalty Islands, as the French Government utterly disregards their facilities as a strong naval base.
