METHODIST CONFERENCE

A FIRE INSURANCE FUND. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 8, 12.15 a.m. Sydney, March 7. The Methodist Conference approved of the establishment of a connexional firn insurance fund. In the discussion complimentary reference was made to New Zealand's funds. NOT THE "WESLEYAX" CHURCH. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At the afternoon sitting of the Methodist Conference it was decided to draw the attention of church members to the fact that the legal name of the church no longer contained the word "Wesleyan," but was at present the "Methodist Church of Australasia in New Zealand." The committee set up to report regarding the centenary of Methodism had no recommendation to make, but pointed out that the centenary of the introduction of Christianity into New Zealand would be celebrated in 1914, and it was inadvisable to have two such celebrations close together. The report was adopted. It was decided that every five years, commencing in 1011, each trust board should make for its district synod a return of the capital value of the properties under its control, showing the unimproved value and the value of the improvements, each synod to report to conference.

A committee was set up to collect evidence regarding the working of the New South Wales, or Nelson, or any other system of Bible-reading in schools, and to report to next conference.

A motion was agreed to, to, the effect that the time was ripe for provision being made for the New Zealand University granting degrees in divinity. A motion was agreed to affirming the belief of the conference that" the Reformation was a return to the Apostolic doctrine and polity. The invitation of Pitt Street (Auckland) to hold the next conference there on February 2fl, 1912, was accepted, and after passing several votes of thanks the conference rose.
