. THE HAREM SKIRT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Rceived 6, 10.50 p.m. Budapesth, March 0. Two society women, attired in harem skirts, appeared at the Opera House. The audience shouted, "Our women shall not wear trousers!" The women tried to hide, but other women forcibly held them in full view of the audience for half-an-hour, preventing the performance proceeding. FIGHTING FISHERMEN. Received 0, 10.50 p.m. Paris, March 6. Serious conflicts occurred at St. Malo between crews of the Newfoundland fishing boats anil gendarmes. The fishermen struck for increased wages, and refused to allow the boats to sail. The gendarmes intervened, and a number of fishermen and police were seriously injured, whilst a woman was killed.
BIG FIRE IN AMERICA. Received 0, 10.50 p.m. New York, March G. A block of buildings in Minneapolis, owned by a syndicate, was destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at a million dollars. Many sensational rescues were effected, some of the people in the buildings running through the flames to the fire escapes. A PAPAL AUDIENCE. Rome, March o. The Pope gave private audience to Sir John and Lady Downer, of Adelaide. A DEFIANT SPEAKER.
Washington, March 5. There were disorderly scenes in the House of Representatives. A member challenged the Speaker, and the latter defied him. The member referred to Mr. Cannon's grey hair, and Mr. Cannon retorted that he wouldn't bar anything. The House cheered the Speaker uproariously.
