INGLEWOOD NOTES
Thursday was observed as a public holiday in Inglewood on account of the Lnited Friendly Societies' picnic, which was held at the Ngaere Hardens. A special train was chartered and about 000 people departed on it, pleasure bent. A most enjoyable day was spent at the gardens, some of the more enthusiastic spirits walking in to the Elthani swimming sports in the afternoon. Duilill, of the local club, obtained second place in the mixed dives. An innovation which was not at all appreciated was the charging of competitors for admittance. This has not been done to my knowledge anywhere else down the coast, and it seems hardly fair to those swimmers who nominate so freely that they should have to pay at the gate as well. A large party of pleasure-seekers also went up the mountain on Thursday and spent a most enjoyable day.
